imageWe have had fantastic sailing since we left the BVI just over two days ago.. and Timing has been in her element as we pointed her due North towards Bermuda, easily doing 8+ knots in the steady 15-20 knot easterly winds. We broke a personal record for all 3 of us onboard when we sailed 200 n miles in the first 24 hours and almost repeated the feat in the next 24 hours, narrowly missing it by only 6 miles … whoopee! For most of the first day we were sailing neck and neck with another Salty Dawg boat, Ariana …. and indeed we again see a white sail off our starboard quarter some distance off today so we suspect she is back again, though we haven’t confirmed it is her.

Mike is a great crew to have onboard, very understanding of our British idiosyncrasies (he even joined us for an afternoon cup of tea yesterday!) and willing to offer help and advice on almost every topic. He’s also a great chef in the galley.

There have of course been some challenges too. Our fridge and freezer both seem to be struggling. Fortunately the freezer temperature is managing to hover around freezing temperature but it does mean we will have to consume the contents fairly quickly. The fridge seems to cope during the day when our batteries are well charged but struggles at night when there is no solar to help them out. Let’s hope we can sort them out in Bermuda. We also had some challenges with the Iridium email, which I managed to jam up when I requested some huge files. However, we were able to resolve the issue with a bit of help from Customer Support using our old “at sea” sail mail email address which fortunately also works on the IridiumGo! device. So, we are again able to receive weather forecasts and communications – yea!

Yesterday we tried out the water-maker and today we reaped the benefits by all 3 of us having a shower, what luxury.
