Thank you all for whatever you did to persuade the powers that be in Nanny Cay Marina to enable us to splash the boat back into the water on Friday afternoon. We did the final touch-ups that morning and made sure all sea cocks are functioning properly but we didn’t know the yard could fit us into their schedule until we were informed around 2:30 that the boat was already in the slings and ready to go…. We were very happy to avoid the additional costs of another hotel night and more importantly the overtime we would have had to pay to launch at the weekend – Whew! A quick trip, under power, put us back in Village Cay.
On Sunday we departed VC for North Sound, Virgin Gorda. It was very bitter-sweet leaving VC, as we had made some very good friends since we first arrived there back in November. However, many had already left for homes east and west. We will look forward to renewing the friendships when we return this November.
When at VC we finally received delivery of our new stack pack from Doyle Sails, which was fitted on Saturday morning. This should make protecting the sail from the harsh tropical sun so much easier. The rest of day was spent provisioning and starting to do some preparatory cooking of easy meals for our offshore passages.
We activated our new DeLorme tracker (albeit a bit late) for the passage up to North Sound on Sunday. If you haven’t already done so, check out our path … it’s quite cool. We had to motor the first hour to avoid punching into the wind but then had a fabulous sail, doing 7-8 knots past the ‘Dogs’ to Mosquito Island. We picked up a Saba Rock mooring, then proceeded to take full advantage of ‘Happy Hour’ and their excellent pain killers … and met up with a few ‘Salty Dawgs’, one couple (Robin and Gary from Adagio) came down to the BVI with us in the Arc 1500 last fall; it was good to reconnect with them. A new chapter begins ….
The photos were taken yesterday when we took a ferry trip across to Gun Creek on the other side of North Sound, then a taxi up to Hog Heaven where, as Mike and Carole know, the ribs and the view are both amazing. We then hiked in the heat of the day (mad dogs and Englishmen) up to the Gorda National Park for an even better view from the top, where the photo was taken. Our legs were complaining by the time we got back down to the ferry and we slept well last night.

I have been reading all your blogs with envy, Love the BV!’s and Virgin Gorda if you have time go to the Bitter End on the north of VG opposite Necka Island. May all your passages be safe, sailing in warm trade winds. I am following you in spirit,
Paul and Corrie Huntley

Do say Hi to Gary and Robin from us, and keep enjoying the down island life, you’ve earned it.
