Once the wind died, the seas became much less confused and flattened out so “Fred” was again put back in charge of helming the boat while we were able to catch up on a bit of R&R. The best bit is that Fred is happy to steer an accurate compass course all day long. The only problem of leaving him in charge when conditions are a bit rough is that we may not be aware of the forces he is exerting to steer a straight course; consequently Howard felt it was better for us to take over while squalls were around. We all slept a lot today during this much calmer patch and managed to rectify a few little issues that occurred over the past couple of days (lines caught, twisted mainsheet, binding tape on the shrouds that had rubbed off exposing sharp cotter pins). We even felt that this would be a good day to catch a fish….. so we rolled out two lines from our Cuban Yo-Yo’s, one with a shiny lure that had done the trick last year and the other with a cedar plug as a lure. We even sharpened up the filleting knife in preparation for what we thought would be coming our way, but sadly the fish had other plans and didn’t bite. We will try again tomorrow….
