So, we have been in Nanny Cay about a month now and have made a few tough decisions. We had SW repaired in early January and were heading to St. Martin when another incident occurred with the starboard bulkhead. This necessitated some major repairs, hence our prolonged forced stay in Nanny Cay; there are worse places to be marooned. As our confidence in SW has been seriously undermined we looked at a few boats for sale here, after all we had plenty of time on our hands. There was one boat, a 2009 Jeanneau 50 DS, that appealed and the price was right, so we made an offer. After some haggling and an additional sea trial we took ownership on Wednesday. We have enjoyed sleeping in air conditioned comfort for the last two nights.
We decided to keep the boat’s name ‘Timing’, as it seemed appropriate. She is a very different style of boat, lighter, faster, easier to sail, and 18 years younger. The latter, should hopefully mean fewer repairs and less maintenance. She has a few idiosyncrasies, for example less storage space down below. Accordingly, It has been slightly difficult trying to find space for all the gear and personal items we are transferring from SW. On the other hand, she has a huge sail locker in the bow as well as a cockpit locker so boat stuff can be kept out of the living space, which will be a big improvement.
SW is on the market, but still undergoing repairs, which should be completed within another week or two. Island time can be trying on occasions.
We should be heading out for some trial sails on Timing later this coming week, and then be heading to St. Martin soon thereafter. Our island hopping plans, for this season, will take in fewer islands than we had originally planned. In May, the current plan is to head for Bermuda and than back to the US east coast.

Gosh big decision but exciting one! Sorry plans scuppered. Big news here John retires at end of May. Had great time with Sonia at Christmas, she is lovely.

Delighted to know the deal has gone through, and you will soon be sailing again on Timing. We wish you happy times in your new home and speedy completion of the work on SW to enable a quick sale, hopefully! Keep on blogging – we will be reading with real interest! xoxo

Great to hear you selected a new vessel and will be sailing again soon.
I like the Jeanneau brand; my Jeanneau Sun Fizz was a very reliable vessel and I enjoyed sailing her for about 25 years. I hope you have a similar experience.
I like the name and looking forward to seeing more photos of your new ride. I’m sure you will really enjoy the DS.
Cheers.

Been thinking about you all. Very exciting news, the new boat. I’ll be crossing my fingers that the sea trials go well. The “Timing” does seem right. Time to move on does to. Nice warm day in Feb. here, in the 50’s. I’m really pining for the start of boating season here. Feels like it’s just around the corner. Good luck with all.

Very glad the hard decisions have been made & the deal’s gone through. Timing, looks perfect in every way. Just sorry not to meet up in St Lucia & have time together. We have done some excellent research for you both, island hopping. The best is yet to come! X Bids

Very glad to see that you’ve (finally) left Nanny Cay! Wahoo! I hope that you had a celebratory departure pain killer or two 😉 Happy sailing on Timing, bon voyage!

Welcome to the Beneteau group of sailboats! I’m sure you will enjoy the modern conveniences of a late model boat. You will likely develop a love hate relationship with the in mast furling main as have I. Air-conditioning and wide open living spaces make for a nice home. Just be careful not to fall across the cabin while underway. Some people mount some vertical grab poles in the cabin for safety in these open floor plan boats.
We are down on Callinectes two or three days a week getting her ready to do some traveling. I am beginning to put some things back together after starting more projects than I care to finish.
Looking forward to seeing you in a few months and checking out your new home.
Happy sailing!
Tom
