Slipped our mooring right on schedule at 10 AM per our arrangement the night before with Sue and Ash. Raised the full mainsail, then the staysail as we rounded Steel Point at the Western end of Tortola (and opposite Great Thatch) and had another lovely sail in about 15-21 knots of Easterly winds. Almost made it to Cane Garden Bay in one tack but decided to head the last little bit up to wind under engine so we could make good time into the Bay before it became crowded. Ash and Sue anchored but we decided to pick up a mooring, even if they do cost more here in the BVI. A dinghy from one of the local restaurants (Rhymer’s) later came out to collect the $30 fee.
Cane Garden Bay is a beautiful, picture perfect, coconut palm tree-lined white sandy beach. It was made even more special when a large square-rigger anchored in the bay and we kept thinking Johnny Depp was about to appear off it at any moment. After the crowds disappeared back to their cruise liners by land, the beach became much more tranquil, and the music from the beach bars wafted over towards us onboard. Scott then exercised his culinary prowess, making pizza. Sue and Ash seemed to enjoy our guacomole followed by barbecue chicken pizza with salad.
