Into our third day of motoring now due to very light winds, most of which were coming out of the south-east (where we want to go) so we are well rested and are caught up with all the little extra tasks that need to be done during quiet periods. The big bonus is that we are able to position ourselves well for the easterly trade winds that have begun to fill in already but are rather light (less than 5 knots) to push our heavy boat along and make good progress. The other bonus is that we were able to celebrate the crossing of the Tropic of Cancer by baking a pineapple upside down cake, which though I say so myself, was yummy, especially as we had some cream to go with it. We also had a few marine visitors; a flying fish clearly didn’t see us in the dark last night and was found this morning somewhat lifeless on the deck but then, more exciting, was a prolonged visit from a pod (at least 9) of dolphins this morning. It is always such a treat to see them playing in the bow wave…

Despite another full day of trying, we still have not caught any fish… but the good news is that the ships stores are still in good supply so we definitely won’t starve. With luck, we may make it to Virgin Gorda tomorrow night. We know it well so are quite comfortable arriving in the dark.
