imageIn response to the many comments on our last post (thank you all), I thought it was about time I updated everyone on our progress, sorry for the gap.  The good news is that our 4 new 8D batteries arrived and were installed today.  We enlisted the help of Kevin from MikMak Marine Services as there was no way Howard and I could have managed them on our own without injuring ourselves; they each weighed over 160 lbs.  So, hopefully now with the aid of solar and wind-generated power, we should not have to run the engine so much or feel the need to plug into shore power so often – freedom!

We ended up staying in Village Cay Marina for almost 2 weeks during which we got some quotes for a few repairs that are needed following our trip from the Chesapeake and tackled a few other tasks ourselves.  Did anyone ever tell you that cruising means you work on your boat in beautiful places? It’s proving to be very true for us…..  However, we also managed to have a bit of fun, meeting up with more friends as well as Roger and Gay on several occasions. The photo of The famous Foxy of Jost van Dyke fame with Bill and Linda Knowles was taken at a Salty Dawg event at Bamboushay to which Sue, Ash, Roger and Gay also came. Although there was live music, sadly Foxy only gave a speech, but no performance.IMG_20151210_185936

We had a couple of fun days in Great Harbour on Peter Island and had 8 onboard Second Wind for dinner one night before heading back to the USVI.IMG_20151215_110625 We picked up a mooring in Caneel Bay, around the corner from Cruze Bay on St John where we checked into the USVI.  Although a bit lumpy overnight, we thoroughly enjoyed a swim followed by a shower off the back of the boat and a gentle hike to the Caneel Bay Hotel resort that was originally owned by Rockerfeller and included some ruins of a former sugar cane distillery. Rather an impressive resort, frequented in the past by JFK and more recently by Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

So, our current plans are to remain in the Virgin Islands until after our repairs are complete.  We are hoping to get together with Sue, Ash, Roger, Gay, Kim and Mahrinez in Peter Island for Christmas…… And head off to Anguilla and St Martin as soon as we reasonably can after that, which may well be after the New Year….. Time will tell.
