We saw water temperatures above 82 degrees F in the Gulf Stream but today they have dropped to around 78 so it is clear we are well through the stream. There are, however, a few eddies around, one of which we unfortunately encountered last night, which slowed our progress by more than 1 knot. However, we are now enjoying bright skies, some sun and much better progress so spirits are.. Read More
Crossed the Gulf Stream
We got off to a great start and made good speed towards our Gulf Stream entry point recommended by Chris Parker…. and even managed to pass a few boats along the way. Wind was around 15 knots on the beam; what more could we ask for? We wisely put one reef in the mainsail for our night time approach to the Gulf Stream just off Cape Hatteras as the wind.. Read More
We’re Off!!!
Sun is shining (a very pleasant change from yesterday’s dull, damp stuff) and the forecast is looking good for a departure today so we should be heading out in half an hour or so. Will try to keep you posted of our life at sea….

Preparations for the Salty Dawg Rally
Meet Ed, who has signed up as crew to join the two of us for the Salty Dawg Rally to the BVIs. We welcomed him onboard (with open arms) in Worton Creek before we departed on Friday October 23rd and had a great sail down the Chesapeake, stopping off in Annapolis, Solomons and near Deltaville on the way. It is great to have him onboard with us and we appreciate.. Read More
Summer in Worton Creek
We wondered at our wisdom of doing boat improvements and maintenance during the hot July and August summer months on the Chesapeake. Our window air conditioning unit (which fortunately wasn’t buried too deeply in our storage unit) made it bearable, especially during the 6-7 weeks when the boat was on the hard. Encouragement and help from our friends made it all feasible and a rewarding experience. Some of the tasks.. Read More

Worton Creek, Maryland
The trip up Chesapeake Bay turned out to be a single shot; we started off motoring as there was very little wind but it gradually increased in the afternoon and was out of the south so we had a good sail for few hours. As often happens on the Chesapeake at this time of year, as dusk fell, we could see lightening, mostly off to the west and behind us.. Read More
Charleston, SC to Chesapeake
While we met some interesting folks in Charleston (Germans on a catamaran docked in front of us, and Brits on a French aluminium boat and Ken and Michelle on a 51 ft C&C on the other side of the dock from us), we were ready to depart the heat and the constant motion of the boat against the dock, caused by the changing swift current, wake from passing boats and..
